Donald & Lily’s Authentic Nyonya Food
Last Saturday on the King’s birthday, I was accompanying my house-mate down to Malacca for a day trip to checkout some dogs which he intended to buy. On a norm, I usually will go and checkout the Chop Chung Wah Chicken Rice Ball shop. Upon our arrival there, we saw the que and there is no way we can step in and eat comfortably. Same goes for Hoe Kee which had to que outside waiting for tables
So we end up parking our car near the stage at Jonker Street and walk towards a place which I didn’t visit for quite some time. The restaurant is called Donald & Lily which operated from an old house at the back alley behind Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. The restaurant on the first floor of this old wooden house serves a number of Nyonya delicacies like ayam pongteh chicken rice, Nyonya laksa, mee siam, fruit rojak and nasi lemak.
Old style kitchen
Nasi Minyak With Rendang Chicken
Come with big chunky size acar
Nyonya Style Rojak.
The rojak here are slightly different from the one we had back in Penang. It consist mostly on fried bean curd, fish ball and cucumber. Taste wise, not as good as the Penang fruits rojak. Again this is base on my personal preference.
Nyonya Curry Laksa
Asam Fish Curry
Ayam Pongteh – A braised chicken with soya sauce, potatoes and black mushroom with a hint of Malacca famous palm sugar. This goes very well with a bowl of white rice and taste the best among all the dishes we had ordered.

The best thing I ever had in Donald’s and Lily is their cendol!
I like Bibik House more 😀
this is what you guys been hunting la.!
When want to join us?
Wah! The rendang chicken so delicious 😀
It does …. but the ayam pongteh better
yes, i personally love donald and lily’s food. Tasty and reasonably priced, as it it located at the popular Jonker Street area. Bur as for chicken rice, forget about Melaka chicken rice balls of the two stalls. They are ONLY popular with tourists.
In fact there anr many other better tasting chicken rice all over malaysia. Have you try the real original Hainan chicken rice balls (bigger) from Muar? Just the rice alone is fragance with the chicken taste. There are two stalls along Jalan Sisi, Muar.
I had it before back in Year 2000. Near by the market area ones where you put the dark soya sauce when you eat it
Yup, they serve a mean Ayam Pongteh, perfect with rice.
But can get a little salty if eaten as it is.
Yea man ….. we had a small rice to go with it
Wondering what kind of portion you guys got for the ayam pongteng.
I ordered 2 portions costing MYR15 which was 5 small pcs of chicken and 2 potatoes cut into cubes.
This is cut throat curry chicken.
