Brolly Restaurant and Bar, Menara Felda
It has been quite some times I went “crabbing”. Yes Crabbing …. my personal terms with my gang to go eat crabs. Penang kias love our crabs a lot and usually we just BBQ it over the fire and a pinch of salt to make it taste better. That is in Bukit Tambun seafood village. But now I am in KL and Selangor area and to eat crabs are very hard to determine which restaurant serves the best. For the past I have tried a couple of it which they are famous with the salted egg yolks version.
I recently was introduced to SS2 Crab Factory that serves Lousiana Boil type that are having special sauce to go along with boiled crabs. But I never been there till I went to their second outlet after the first success one. The second one are located at Menara Felda, Platinum Park KL. A stone throw away from KL best photography spot of the Twin Tower KL CC and Menara Maxis. From far you will be greeted by a Mini Bus parked in front of the restaurant which turned into a bar that serves some kick ass range of cocktail.
Brolly Restaurant and Bar are a perfect spot to hang around while waiting for the traffic jam to subside after 6pm around KLCC area. It is not a good idea to go and waste time in the jam as which ever angle you go also will get stuck. So why not sit back and chill out and take your dinner here.
Under a roof there are several type of foods which combines a crab, pizza, fried chicken wing, salad bar and wide range of great cocktails to greet you.
After push the door, I thought I entered a car workshop as there’s an old Datsun (Now known as Nissan) car hung upside down on the ceiling. All the walls were decorate by basic sport rims gives you a very sophisticated yet comfy ambiance without the dirty lubricants on the floor.
The hand wash basin also were made from tyre and the water tap are petrol pumps.
Further in there are a wall of old black records which make the place feels like Hard Rock Cafe but they are not related to them. Just a simple and nice decor. Since I was there to crabbing, for sure I will checkout which is my victims of the night.
All the seafood mostly were air flown alive weekly to the restaurant.
LIVE snails which usually serve as escargot still moving in the aquarium.
This is how fresh the oyster in Brolly. A pop cost you RM12 but minimum they serve half dozen. It is the juiciest and sweetest oyster you can find in Klang Valley. All the oyster still alive preserved in temp and water quality controlled aquariums.
Say hi to the Big Brown Crabs air flown weekly to Brolly. This fella is the chosen one.
While waiting for our food to be prepared we ordered some cocktails and bar foods to start the evening.
This is one of their signature drinks. Beergarita (RM30) where a combination of fruit juice with beer. It is served with the beer bottle upside down into the glass. While the foam on top of the glass were actually ice blended with fruit juice like peach or pineapple. It taste very good as the juice remove the bitterness of the beer while maintain the gassy feel of the beer that resemble a soft drink. Go slow with this as you do not want to pass out with your first glass.
High Ballrus – A Japanese inspired whiskey mixed with fruit juice drink which taste more like a mocktail than a cocktail.
Keropok Lekor and house special dipping sauce
Fried calamari tentacles with dried chilli which I would vote the best bar food that can get along with any drinks on the bar.
Another bar food highly recommended is their onion flower (RM18) which is a deep fried big battered onion and dip with special brown sauce.
After all those deep fried stuff need to be balance with some greens. A wide range of special salads are there for you to choose as a starter.
Spinach & Feta Melon Salad -RM22
Grilled Caesar Salad -RM15
Fried Cencaluk Chicken Wings
Fried fish cakes
Smoked Duck Yakitori
Garlic Escargot – RM24 for half dozen
The crabs were served not long after we place the order. Their signature flavour were the Southern Bank and follow by the Butter Garlic flavour. For first timer who visits Crab Factory SS2 or Brolly for crabbing should go with their Southern Bank. Southern bank is a spicy tangy flavour sauce that best to go along with any seafoods served. If you don’t want to eat crab, you can go for mussels, prawns or even lobsters. Price are displayed clearly on the menu and you can decide from there. I would suggest you to go for the MEAT CRAB for a start.
Range of sauces : mustard, garlic butter, garlic aoili, zesty lemon, signature southern bang and jamba-jamba
Mussels
For the seafoods, you can top it up with potatoes, chicken sausages, king mushrooms, corn, enoki mushrooms and button mushrooms
If you are a meaty person, there are steaks on the menu as well. Not to mention also their pizza menu that are different from the other restaurants in town.
Grilled Beef Sirloin -RM34
Thai Beef Guava Salad -RM28
Hawaiian -RM23
A dinner won’t be complete without the company of desserts. Here at Brolly they surprise us with :-
Ribena Poached Pear, Rocky Road, Chunky Peanut Butter Granola and Creme Brulee
Grilled Green Pear Parcel
Grilled Montel Banana Parcel
A Porky Affair at Smoking Hog SS2 (CLOSED)
I am a pork lover guy …… wherever the restaurant serves pork, I’ll be there to try out their foods. Lately more and more restaurants that dedicated to serve pork mushroom in Klang Valley. Hidden in the all famous food streets, night markets and restaurants, there’s a new restaurant that grab my attention because they serve pork.
The restaurant may be tricky a bit to find but it’s entrance is right at the walking alley next to the Crazy Crab restaurant.
The entrance is a small door that leads you to the lift lobby and upon entering the lift, go to the top floor.
The restaurant were located at the Mezzanine floor and you’ll be greeted by a contemporary designs and art work of the restaurant.
Plush leather couches and wood works were on displayed and also as the main dining tables for the guests.
Caesar Salad @ RM 23
A full fledge caesar salad dressed with house special salad dressing with runny egg yolk and real pork bacon salad bits. This is the real deal that many of the restaurants replace pork bacon with beef just to suit the local request that just for the sake of reducing the cost. I kinda like the way they add on crispy anchovies to the salad as a replacement to salt.
Shishamo & Fruit Salad @ RM28
This dish would be ladies or girls favourite who love to eat clean and healthy. The sweet and tangy taste from the dressing blend in well and perfect to go as a starter before having a full weight meal. This will reduce your appetite to over eaten.
Egg Bomb @ RM 15
This egg standing there may look like a normal fried egg on the plate. Once you cut open, the first thing to flow out would be the runny egg yolk which drenched the ingredients deep fried along with the egg. You may feel for an egg that cost RM15 will be too much but the ingredients that go in there are of premium quality stuffs.
Bacon with Takoyaki & KBO Salad @ RM 34
Meat balls blanket with bacon and served with kimchi and baby octopus. You may take this as a salad platter or finger food platter. It is well balanced and easy to go along with any type of drinks and a good start for those who don’t want to have a heavy meal before their drinking session nor too heavy meals that prohibit them to drink later.
SH Signature Bacones @ RM 32
Another good drink companion would be their Bacones. The name bacon…. already tell you the bacon as one of the ingredient for the dish. The crispy bacon wrapping the the stuffings are pretty filling if you take both of it.
Grilled Pig’s Tongue Burger
You may feel gross with the name “tongue” but do you know that the tongue were actually having the softest meat and taste best for a burger. As you can see the burger do not come with any sauce as the meat patty were juicy enough. To enjoy burger is best to have a teeth bite down all the layers. If you feel it is too thick, you may use my method to press down and compact the burger for easier to go in your mouth.
Besides all the light snacks and starters, the main thing you can go for all day long would be their range of pastas. Pastas are fast to prepare fresh and is much better than eating rice that has too much carbs. I always get the problem after a rice meal, I get sleepy. But different story with pastas are just filled up our belly and does not cause sleepy feeling. Smoking hog served pastas all day long and their range are enough to cover you all week long.
When this plate of pastas served we can’t tell what is below the cover. It is covered with smokes and all fog up below it.
Double Smoked Duck Fettucini Carbonara @ RM 39
This is one of the best carbonara I have where it is served in my fav style that let us poke our own egg yolks and mixed it. It makes your paste smoother and creamier. The bacons no need to say bring more fragrance to the plate that make you want more.
Bacon Matriciana @ RM 31
Spicy L & Seafood Tagliatelle @ RM 41
Baked Rice Cake Lasagna @ RM 25
This is another special dish to try on is their rice cake lasagna. It is made so good that we finished it by shared among us. You can’t tell this is made from pastas or rice cakes as the textures are pretty much the same when it is eaten hot with the sticky cheese.
Smoking Hog Berries Ku Ru Yok @ RM 39
Another dish you may consider would be their Ku Lu yoke … sweet and sour pork. This is different from what you normally have that are cooked with tomato sauce or plum sauce. Here at Smoking Hog, they are using their house special BBQ sauce and strawberries.
Bacon & Egg Ice Cream @ RM 10
This is one hell good scoop of an ice cream. It is rich and creamy. I am a big fan of desserts and never say too much of them. But this one a scoop is nice but 2 is too much. It is way too much above the bar for me. For ice cream, usually it is cold and sweet. For this, it add saltiness to it with the crispy bacon bits that surprisingly goes very well with the whole thing. If you think this is too fattening for you, you may opt for their famous Rum and Raisins that are equally as good. Usually for Rum and Raisins, I will go for Haagen Daz. I would say Smoking Hog’s were better as their raisins are better.

After a long hiatus from food blogging, I can’t resist but to share this place. I am currently focusing more at www.mobsterstudio.com work which emphasise more on professional photography. This new place just recently open together with the return of ATRIA MALL located at Damansara Utama. This restaurant catch my attention when they offer OMAKASE. When you say omakase, or “it’s up to you”, in a Japanese restaurant, you are in essence entrusting the entire dining experience to the chef. In return, the chef will present his finest ingredients and culinary creativity for your dining pleasure.
Manmaru Robatayaki & Bar are located on the left side of the main entrance of the mall.
The design are pretty much fusion contemporary.
The place has lots of spot lights hanging around that resemble a stage to give you a time to party feeling the moment you step in.
You are infact the super star here where you are treated with utmost service be it sitting at the bar where you get to see your sushi pressed right before your eyes or behind the grill where your foods are cooked. Rest assure that the ventilation here is good and air condition are good too.
This is the main display area of what is available here today. All the fishes were air flown in from Japan weekly and once sold out, you will need to book them ahead to secure your catch.
Prices are defined clearly and what you see is what you pay + 6% GST.
The Red fish also feel so surprise the price are so cheap??
Since this is a bar, a number of creatively crafted cocktails from alcoholic to non alcoholic are there for selection.
Apple Gravity Beer RM28 – Combination of lime juice and Tiger beer. This combi seems odd but it taste really good. The way it served also very unique where the bottle are upside down.
Hana Kotaba RM30 – A cock tail with dried lavender flower that give you a strong flowery scent. A very refreshing drink for summer.
Kiwi Caipirosca – RM35
Another great drink that I suggest you to give it a shot would be the Smoke and Plum Galaxy RM39 which taste a little tangy and sweet. I kinda love it. A range of smoked and dried ingredients were blended together to give you an aged drinks feel.
Momotaro Salada – RM18
The tomato basically an imported from Japan and stuffed with salads within. It is not sourish and sweet in taste.
Chef Starter line up which consist of Sweet, Sour, Spicy, Salty and Fresh. It depends pretty much of your luck on what taste you will get. So since we all ordered a few sets, we get the full spread.

Potato salad served like a boss and the look at the crab standing there so macho.

potato salad and maguro cube
Yakitori served on a trunk …. A famous dish to go along with drinks at the bar. There are chicken skins, scallop, beef bacons, mushrooms and beef cubes.
7 type Sashimi Platter – RM 180 freshness
Chef Special Combination for 1 person – RM 68 per pax and everything from the finest and freshest in the shop. Normally it is very hard to get fresh sea urchin and here excel in the subject.
Wagyu Roll – The juicy marbling of top grade wagyu beef wrap around sushi rice and is recommended to mix all the sauces together. Although it looks nice as a deco, but there are a reason for chef to put it on the plate.

Lobster Dragon Roll
Chef special lobster sushi served with mango slice, caviar and plenty of ebiko. A Recommended to order dish for sushi lover.

Every piece were skilfully cut and presented. It looks really good and feels wanna just keep the whole plate for display.

Japanese Hakata Tsukemen Dipping Style Pork Ramen
In the F&B industry for the year of 2013 and 2014, the hype of high quality fine foods started with gourmet burgers and now with pork ramens. More and more high quality ramen surfaced in all major shopping malls around Klang Valley and Selangor. Hail from Hakata, Fukuoka City Japan which is the famous place for ramen. Ippudo was started by Shigemi Kawahara a.k.a. the Ramen King who is also the founder of Chikaranomoto Company (The brand owner of the global chain of Ippudo).
Ippudo started its first outlet in Pavillion KL follow by The Gardens Midvalley and latest at Bangsar Shopping Centre.
Yosuke Nishiguci san the operation consultant from Ippudo Japan briefing us a little about the company and showing us the right way to enjoy Tsukemen ramen. You can rest assure the quality and authenticity of the ramen served by Ippudo as they station their Japan staff in KL for quality and management.
For beginners who first indulge in ramen, ALWAYS try their SHIRO or better known as white soup. These white soup is the signature for the ramen brand which need a long time brewing using best quality pork.
For season connoisseurs would want to opt for the Tsukemen which is a dry version that accompany with a Thick Broth.
Hakata Tsukemen – RM26
Do not drink this broth directly. It is highly concentrated and salty. It is meant to dip with the ramen which is literally tasteless and depend on the broth to spice it up. If you find it overly salty for you, you may add hot water in it that make it more easy to consume. The hot soup were the finale to be finish off with hot water to complete the meal hence you see in Japan sometime customers do not order drinks. The soup itself is pleasant enough to be drink as a drink itself.
If you find that the ramen is too little for you, you may order the sushi to accompany it. There 3 sushi above is Spicy Tuna Roll, Unagi Cheese Roll and Salmon Avocado Bacon Roll. Each are served on individual portion based. The photo above were taken during blogger intro and we get to sample 1 each.
I personally rank this as one of the Top 3 ramen in Malaysia and KL/Selangor area. So what are you waiting for? Head to Ippudo Ramen and try them out.
