Mum’s Seafood Noodles House started off in Kota Damansara 2 months back selling seafood noodles. Somehow the person who are behind the business Joshua thinks that it is good to share his mother in law’s cooking to the public. I was invited over by him for a food tasting session where we were presented with some gorgeous foods.

We started off with their signature Fish Head Noodles and Special Prawns Soup Seafood Noodles. Both were very sinfully taste and very nice. All the ingredients used to cook the noodle were fresh and succulent.

A few months back, my colleague (whole bunch of Food POI members) all of sudden get chicken rice frenzy. I guess they probably sick of looking at pork already when I drag them to have bak kut teh weekly over the weekend to pick the best out in Klang. Somehow the result still undetermined yet.

So we went and dig the best chicken rice in Klang Valley. First we had Chong Yien’s located at Section 17 just right opposite 6 to 10 Grill and behind My Elephant Thai Restaurant. This one very famous for its roast chicken, ch and roast pork. Sold out mostly at 1.30pm max! Rice wise, so so. Chai Boey, damn good! Price wise, the most expensive chicken rice in PJ on the hawker chicken rice category. Poach chicken not available here.

Next one is the 2007 Hainanese Chicken Rice Champ at Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara. Restoran Tasty Chicken Rice which for their roasted chicken and braised chicken feet. Chicken is good but rice quality is inconsistent. The chicken alone were marinated with some spices and then send to roast. The roast chicken sold out very fast. Usually finish within 2 hours time. Poach chicken wise, I never try it before as the chicken rice competition picture never show they are good in that!

Come to poach chicken, it is pretty hard to find a good ones in Klang Valley and PJ. My coleaque being a chicken rice pot (one day no eat chicken rice cannot sleep), he recommend me to have our lunch in Ampang. When he mention Ampang, automatically Yong Tau Fu came in mind. He said NO! NO! NO! ….. we go Ampang eat chicken rice. I am pretty doubtful when he said this so we went and give it a try.

The very striking orange sign board with a line “More than 50 years of secret recipe”

It is a hell to find parking here. Usually people will double park or go one big round and turn into their back alley for parking and enter from back door.

The front part of the shop – non air conditioned. Air conditioned room is at the back

Only poached chicken. No BBQ no Fry! Chicken come in 2 types. Corn fed (Farm Chicken) which pretty yellowish and normal chicken.

Winner of Guang Ming Daily Top 20 Chicken Rice King competition

After I visit Big Brother Western Food for the second time, I take a drive to the new shop lots behind to see what new restaurants going to open. To my surprise at the middle of the second row just right behind Big Brother. The Wok Cafe looks like a traditional baba and nyonya house from outside. I went there 2 times to prepare for this review.

With so full feeling, I return to The Wok Cafe the next day.

Though the restaurant doesn’t have much customers at first, I just brace myself to go in and try out their foods. You won’t know when you will get a good food like what I had in Big Brother and Bangkok Wasabe. That’s why never judge a book by its cover.

Being a father (Uncle Robert Yeoh) and son (Mervyn Yeoh)team from Penang specializing in home cook authentic Penang style Nyonya Cuisine for the past 15 years, they join forces to hands on to cook for every customers that patron here. They list down their specialties like Perut Ikan, Lor Bak (Pork Rolls), Hong Bak (Pork Stew), Curry Kapitan Chicken, Inche Kabin, Gulai Tumis Fish, Tamarind Prawns (Asam Prawns), Pork Cincalok, Kiam Chai Ark (Preserved Salted Vege Duck Soup), Kerabu Mango, Jiu Hu Char and a lot more. Those listed were what a normal nyonya food restaurant would serve and they have it all !

The Restaurant Setup and Ambiance

The restaurant were decorated the old school way with plenty of antiques being displayed. Those with price tags were available for sale. All the tables were those old chinese marble top with a wooden carved leg plus the old wooden chairs.

The small piece of mirror which clinged on the big mirror was a collection items. It has Marilyn Monroe picture embeded inside. According to the father, that piece of small mirror is worth RM6000+. The mirror was from the Elvis Presley time.

It doesn’t move anymore.

Kitchen entrance
