Dinner Eating Out In Sandakan, Restoran Seafood Sim Sim 88 at Sim Sim Water Village

The first night in Sandakan, I was introduced to the local famous tourist restaurant known as Restaurant Seafood Sim Sim 88. Being a place that renowned for seafood, this is a MUST try. The location is at a place called Sim Sim. Basically Sim Sim is an ocean settlement where all the peoples stay and make a living there.

Most of the people here open a seafood restaurant or coffee shop that sells breakfast.

The seafood restaurants here mostly are pork free. Since the seafood are so cheap and fresh why you still need pork?

We are sitting on some wooden huts that built on a wooden platform above the ocean. The place is non air conditioned and can get warm when not raining.

The place are clean and surrounded by the villagers day to day life ambiance.

 The look of the cashier counter and entrance.

Fresh live crabs and fishes tank.

Variety of fishes for you to choose to choose from. All these fishes are catch by small fishermans and then sold to the restaurants. All the fishes are fresh from the sea and not from breeding farm. Like chickens the free range chicken taste better as they had plenty of exercise in the wide ocean.

You just need to go to the tank and point your finger. They will catch and cook for you.

Bigger than my palm sized fresh oyster.

Huge lobster that gain a lot of attention. According to the locals this place price are slightly higher but still we find it reasonable for the quality and freshness.

For the starter we are having a steamed oyster. I know some of you may say this is wasted. You all would love it on tobasco sauce and lemon. But what to do? We need to try their specialty. I place the small sauce plate there to indicate the size of the oyster. The oyster are steamed with lime juice and birds eye chilli. It is juicy and flavorful.

Fried baby squid and tossed with black soya sauce.

I would say this is a good dish for a start and also for snacks. They are kinda chewy and the taste rely on the caramelized coating of the sauce that goes with it.

Deep Fried Salted Talang Fish and drenched on lime juice

Don’t judge by its look and attack a big bite on the fish. You will regret. This is not a piece of normal fried fish which normally it smells so good and you will cut a quarter and place it in your mouth. If you eat salted fish that way, you will turn speechless. I love the idea of pairing the salted fish with lime juice. Something to bring the kick out of the good quality salted fish.

Butter Prawns

Juicy and succulent prawns pan fried with butter sauce. Not to be missed.

Fried Sabah vegetable with egg

Steamed Sar Bak Clam with Ginger and garlic with birds eye chilli.

Kam Heong Crab

Kam Heong crab is one of the common style in preparing crabs. The kam heong sauce is normally a house specialty which each having different ingredient mix in it. Curry leaves, garlics, and chilli are the common ingredient in all kam heong sauce.

Steamed Red Snapper Fish in Teo Chew Style

The tangy and slightly spicy sauce steam with the fish are a good way to bring out the appetite. The fish also is good to be steamed with light superior soya sauce.

Honey Lamb Chop

Tender lamb chop prepared honey glazed and dark soya sauce. I always scare the lamb smell but here they prepare till the smell reduce to minimum.

Sirocco Italian Restaurant, Malacca Holiday Inn Hotel

строителство на къщиåWhat makes a good holiday trip? Stay in comfort and good food of course. Continue from my previous post on Holiday Inn Melaka, where I introduce about the hotel rooms and facilities they have a mid range Italian Dining located right at the lobby floor.

There are 2 sections of the restaurant which 1 part is right in front of the wine room and the inner restaurant which is facing the open kitchen.

The place are ideal for business talk and anniversary celebration where you can choose a bottle of wine or champagne to celebrate anything. Ambiance wise are pretty quiet and not  like fast food restaurant which you can barely hear what your guest are talking.

Privacy corner where it is outside the main dining hall. This is the place where not many guest around u. You are pretty secluded and have plenty of privacy.

I am kinda impress with their efficiency here. Such a compact kitchen manned by 4 to 5 chefs and still very well organised. They even have a wood fire oven that use to bake all the breads and pizza. Thumbs up to the lead chef that head this kitchen. You don’t see people bang into each other even working in such a tight place.

Wood Fire Oven baked bread with balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil dip for the start.

For the night, we got a bottle of Church Block Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz-Merlot Mix Red Wine from McLaren Vale, Australia. To my surprise it is pretty easy to drink and goes well with any western foods especially pizza. The wine is fruity with a spicy tinge result from the Shiraz.

Funghi Dell Arrosto con II Famaggio di Capre – RM35

Wood fire oven roasted Portobello mushroom with goat curd cheese.

Cappesante saltate con Dadolata di Vegetali – RM25.50

Succulent Scallop with vegetable stew made in capsicum, shiitake mushroom, oyster mushroom, button mushroom, zucchini and carrot.

Sirocco Caesar Salad – RM22

Classic Caesar Salad consist of Romaine lettuce tossed with Beef Bacon, Anchovies and Grated Parmesan Cheese. This can never go fail and shall be the starter.

Zuppa di Conghiglie – RM19.50

Cream of seafood chowder with vegetable. Creamy soup with succulent prawns and clam.

Minestrone Di Verdure Classico, Pesto – RM18.50

Classic minestrone with basil pesto. A perfect choice for those who want to start off slow where this is purely made from fresh tomatoes. Some people can’t start off with seafoods and meaty soups.

Zuppa di Funghi, Aromatizzo al Tartuffoc – RM19.50

If the minestrone are not your type, this is the fail proof soup. Mushroom soup can never go wrong. There are a hint of truffle but not strong enough. But still it is tasty with plenty of black mushroom cook with it.

Branzino In Costa di Sale, Patate Novelle al Vapore, Burro al Limone – RM50.80

Oven baked salt-crusted sea bass with steam new potatoes with lemon butter sauce.

The service are pretty good which they even help you to remove the salt and bones. Just serve you with what you should place in your mouth. The lemon butter sauce are ideal to dip in all sorts of seafoods.

Costolette di agnello con Caponata – RM68

Lamb rack done in ratatouille style topped with tomato sauce. Perfect for lamb lovers where the rack are pretty well marinated and juicy.

Smoked Salmon Pizza – RM25.00

This is the all time best selling pizza at Sirocco. Thin crust, hand tossed and topped with smoked salmon, sour cream plus drizzled with olive oil made it sound simple but is a satisfying choice.

Gamberoni – RM32

Spaghetti tossed cook king prawn, chilli, parsley, garlic and arugula is one of the favorite pasta choice for family guest. This can be eaten by anyone. It is not too spicy and the tomato tangy flavor are kid’s favorite.

Risotto al Funghi Selvatici e Parmigianno – RM32

Risotto cooked with wild mushroom and parmesan cheese. We find that this is rather decent choice if you want to get full. Nothing beats rice when filling up your tummy. This risotto is an healthy option where it is cooked with wild mushroom cream and topped with grated parmesan cheese.

Tortino Caldo al Ciocolato – RM19.80

Warm chocolate tortino with vanilla ice cream. This will melt your heart of after a long day journey in Melaka. The hot chocolate ooze out when you cut them.

Menya Musashi Ramen 1 Utama Top In My List Of Japan Pork Ramen

There are a couple of food frenzy trend lately started off with Bubble Milk Tea, then the Kaw Kaw Burger Bakar kick in and the latest is the Japanese Pork Ramen! Earlier I did mention I found my best ramen in town which is Yamagoya Ramen located at Publika Solaris Dutamas. Without a doubt that is a good ramen chain straight from Shinjuku, Japan. Now they have a big rival which topped my Best Ramen shop.

Musashi Ramen with Aka Oil (Home Made Musashi Chili Oil) – RM27

Located at the new old wing of 1 Utama (previously is the place where TGV Cinema located) not it has turn into EAT Paradise where all the Japanese and Korean Food centralize. You can expect some top class foods here where its authenticity is guaranteed. Menya Musashi Ramen is located at the back. So you have to walk in to EAT Paradise and turn to your right, you can see them at the corner.

Restoran Zi Zai Paya Terubong, Penang Cooking Up A Feast From Yesteryear

Tucked in an industrial zone of Paya Terubong, Penang Island. This is one of the best home cook food restaurant available in Penang. Though it may look like an ordinary tai chow restaurant, it does serve some authentic home cook foods.

Last weekend I was in Penang island to do a pre wedding job there. If you didn’t know I am part of the crew of Mobster Studio. After done with he photo shoot I went to Paya Terubong to visit Restoran Zi Zai. I came here before previously but not able to try much of the goodies here. The kitchen is helm by Hock Chai the owner cum head chef. Prior to our arrival, I made a reservation ahead on what is going to be served. If you want your dish to come out fast upon your arrival, give Hock Chai a call a buzz. The food menu is well written with English and Chinese words where language is not a barrier here. Some of my friends from KL who don’t speak Hokkien do not need to worry here. You can speak to them in English or Mandarin here.

Salted Fish Bone Soup – RM12 BIG

We were served with a bowl of piping hot and tasty tofu cook with salted fish and pork soup. A sip down awakes the appetite hunger for more. The salted fish bone is not that salty and just giving a lil bit of flavor to the bean curd which literally tasteless. Sliced pork were added to spice up the soup taste where we clear every single drip of it.

Crispy Fried Oyster at Lam Ah Coffee Shop Chulia Street Penang

Tucked in the corner of the city opposite the FIre Station of Beach Street and Chulia Street junction, there are 2 famous hawker foods can be found here. One is the beef noodle and another one is the fried oyster stall. The fried oyster were previously from the Swatow Lane kopitiam prior to the new building of the New World Park.

Big fat juicy and crispy edge fried oyster. Perfect for tea time snacks.

Having a chance to visit 6 different restaurants serving all different types of cuisines in 1 dinner really a tiring one to handle. We were lucky to have Vintry as the last one to visit as they were famous for their finger food that goes along with their wines and beers.

The place were having a very cozy ambiance and relaxing environment without the usual pub heart throbbing musics. You can sit here all night to chill out after work. A wide variety of vintage and young wines from multi country are there awaiting for you.

Jaya 33 Merdeka Food Crawl Part 3 – Deutsches Haus Jaya 33

If you work in PJ or KL, after the office hour I don’t think you would be happy to stuck in the jam for no reason which usually last for an hour. During this period why don’t you ask your friend to chill out and hit a beer.

A German Bar setup and deco were it makes you feel very comfortable. Though it was a bar, we always have the impression of noisy music and plenty of smokes. That’s not the same here.
